Sports Premium

The Primary PE and Sport Premium grant (SPG) is government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality of their physical education (PE) and sports offer.
The funding aims to help schools enhance their PE and sports programs in numerous ways:
  • Improve PE and Sports Provision:
The primary goal is to enhance the quality and breadth of PE and sports activities offered in primary schools.
  • Increase Pupil Engagement:
Encouraging more pupils to participate regularly in physical activity and sports is a key objective.
  • Promote Healthy Lifestyles:
The funding aims to support children in achieving the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity and promoting overall well-being, according to the Department for Education.
  • Support Staff Development:
The premium can be used to increase the confidence and skills of teachers in delivering high-quality PE and sports lessons.
  • Enhance School Improvement:
By improving PE and sport, the premium can contribute to a positive school environment and promote pupils' overall development.

How it can be used:
  • PE Delivery:
Funding can be used to improve the quality of PE lessons, potentially through purchasing new equipment, providing training for staff, or employing specialist coaches.
  • Extracurricular Activities:
The premium can support a wider range of extracurricular sports and competitive opportunities, ensuring that all pupils have access to a variety of activities.
  • Staff Development:
Schools can use the funding to train staff in new sports, improve their coaching skills, or provide opportunities for professional development in PE.
  • Facilities and Equipment:
The premium can help schools improve their sports facilities and purchase new equipment to enhance the quality of their PE and sports provision.
  • Partnerships:
Schools can use the funding to partner with external sports providers or organizations to offer new and exciting activities for pupils
