School Council 2010/11
The school council has been going for five years and every year a new council is elected. Everyone has the chance to stand for election. The election is by secret ballot emulating the democratic system.
Each year group has one boy and one girl depending on the numbers in the year group.
We all meet half termly in the staffroom during the school day. Our meetings are quite lively and busy.
We have so many ideas to share and talk about. When we first meet, a chairperson and secretary are appointed
and then Mr. Catton/Mrs. Hockley allows our chairperson to conduct the rest of the meeting. a governor. Mr. Colin Parker, is also a member.
Our agenda tends to follow these headings:
· Apologies
· Minutes from the last meeting
· Healthy School
· Other issues/suggestions
· Date of next meeting
Sometimes we have consultants to help and talk to us. We have special consultants for water and the school newspaper.
Most recently, Eco Champions have been appointed who will help us and our school become more Eco friendly.
In September 2008, Class 3 thought of lots of ideas which we need to discuss that will make our school a better
place for us to learn. We also need to make an Eco plan and continue to think and live as healthily as we can.
Ideas do take a long time to become a final product and we do need lots of help from adults at times.
We all wanted hot school meals and the governors built a new kitchen and bought lots of new tables.
Last year the school council chose the tables which are very easy to assemble. Our teachers have made
us feel important and we know they listen to us and our ideas.
he school council is very important to our school because the people elected make the school a happier place.
We need children’s views so we can all enjoy ‘our’ school.
